‘American Bull’ running at Iranian fest in Australia

‘The American Bull’ is vying at the 10th Iranian Film Festival Australia.

‘The American Bull’ has been vying at the 10th edition of the Iranian Film Festival Australia (IFFA).

Written, produced and directed by Fatemeh Tousi, the 15-minute film narrates the story of a young boy named Saheb who lives in a village near the border between Iran and Iraq.

Saheb who owns the only male American bull is heavily dependent on his bull and earns money by its servicing for breeding.

Tousi’s work won some awards such as best film award at the Dhaka International Youth Film Festival in Bangladesh, Best Narrative Short Award at the Alrington International Film Festival in the US, and best short film award at the Talent Under 35 Award at the Sguardi Altrove international women’s film festival in Italy.

Most recently, ‘The American Bull’ received the special jury prize in the short competition of the Arica Nativa Film Festival in Chile and best short film award at the Lions International Short Film Festival in Turkey.

The film has also been screened at global events such as the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in Germany, the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria, and the Sapporo Short Film Festival in Japan.

The IFFA helps better familiarize the Australian audience with Iranian culture, featuring Iranian stories in movie theaters in the various cities of Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra.

The 2021 edition of the event is underway online and in-person on May 20–June 30.
